Using hobbies for stress relief might sound “old school” to many people.
Is it just me, or does it seem like hobbies kind of faded away in today’s society?
There used to be hobby shops all around my hometown when I was growing up. But lately, it seems like maybe people are a little too busy with their lives and obligations to find time for this relaxing, fun activity.
Or perhaps we’ve just become so obsessed with technology and its growing list of cool, new gadgets, that we’ve lost touch with the simpler pleasures in life.
Social media is another big distraction that sucks away our attention like a powerful magnet!
These products and platforms are all well and good. They have opened our eyes to new ways of interacting and communicating with each other I never thought possible a few decades ago.
A contemporary world is developing, however, and with it come new responsibilities which could become stressful for some people.
Imagine if you had a natural outlet to relieve some of these extra pressures? Do you think you could handle things better?
Well it might be time to consider taking up a hobby!
A Soothing Diversion
The busier you are, the more you need a hobby.
That mountain of stress on your shoulders can cause your knees to buckle over time, if it is carried around relentlessly.
Settling down in a quiet area, and committing your attention to something that really pleases you, will totally be worth it in the long run.
It can ignite a sense of fun and independence previously missing from your routine.
The effects of chronic stress will likewise start to fade, and you’ll feel refreshed and invigorated after these daily or weekly sessions.
One simple little hobby might be the key to stopping that ever-dreaded burn out too!
I’ve discussed the importance of breaks in a previous article. This is a great way to step away from it all, and forget about work and other tedious schedules.
Go ahead and re-charge those internal batteries in your own unique way!
Putting An End To The Humdrum

Do you ever feel like the sizzle is missing from your life? A certain spark that makes you walk a bit taller and smile for no reason?
Maybe a hobby can bring some of that back…
It could inspire you to be more creative, if you choose an artistic interest such as painting or poetry.
Or, if you like to collect model trains or keep a scrapbook, your excitement builds as you anticipate sharing the results with family and friends.
There are so many different hobby ideas to choose from! You can:
- Take up gardening
- Collect rare and exotic stamps
- Learn a craft like woodworking
- Try knitting
- sign up for some golf lessons
- Make decorations or knickknacks for your home out of uncommon things
The list goes on and on…
Some hobbies can even provide a social outlet.
If you’re shy or introverted by nature, there are groups you can find that share your interests.
Open up and express yourself as you discover people who enjoy the same things you do!
Many of these can be searched for online. Just look up your chosen hobby and punch in groups, and I’m sure there will be lots of results to sort through:)
To Conclude
By now you should realize that the range of hobbies is expansive and unrestricted.
There are fun hobbies, weird hobbies, outdoor hobbies, and indoor ones…hobbies for girls and hobbies for men. There are expensive hobbies and some so cheap they only require an investment of your time.
Even something as simple as doing crossword puzzles can serve to take your mind off other matters and therefore help you relax.
In the above example, though, I would recommend doing the paper editions instead of online puzzles. There are just way too many distractions to lure you away from the task at hand in the internet world!
Utilizing hobbies for stress relief is well worth the effort in my mind.
Just make sure it’s something you truly enjoy!!!
“The busier you are, the more you need a hobby” I soooooo agree with this! It seems like we have forgotten how to have fun and take some time for ourselves! Our parents were working probably more than us but they also knew how to unwind and have some fun. I think that people in executive positions are just focused too much of getting more profit, doing more and making their employees follow along. They do this until they are stressing everyone out including themselves and their families. If people who manage companies would stop doing too much and take a break (and get their employee to take one) we would all be so much better.
“All work and no play, makes Jack a…” very stressed individual in my opinion!
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this very crucial matter.
